what do you get?

The price for one year at an efterskole includes accommodation, teaching materials, examination fees, meals, weekend programmes, as well as trips in Denmark and across Europe.
In addition, you gain a once-in-a-lifetime experience where you build friendships across borders and cultures.

At The International, you also have access to outstanding sports facilities, including a large gymnastics and trampoline centre with six trampolines and dedicated foam pits, a modern dance studio, two large sports halls for badminton, volleyball, basketball, and more, as well as artificial turf pitches, grass fields, and a goal station for football.

The only activities that require an additional fee are overseas trips (see World Trips) and the Surf profile elective.

school fees for the academic year 2026/27:

  • 3,150 DKK per week for 42 weeks = 132,300 DKK*
    (Any applicable government subsidy will be deducted from this amount)

  • A non-refundable registration fee of 800 DKK is required upon registration to reserve your place.

  • In addition, a non-refundable fee of 4,000 DKK is payable upon signing the contract to officially confirm enrolment.

  • A full school year (42 weeks) with us, including the registration fee and deposit, totals 137,100 DKK.
    This corresponds to approximately €18,367 / USD 21,535 / GBP 15,917
    (exchange rate as of 28 January 2025).

Travel costs and extras

  • World Trips: 0–18,000 DKK depending on the chosen destination (non-refundable).
    One World Trip option is always included in the school fee at no additional cost (excluding pocket money).

  • Surfing elective: If Surfing is chosen as a profile elective, an additional fee of 6,000 DKK per student applies. This includes all transportation to and from Hvide Sande, tuition, and board rental. Winter wetsuits, gloves, and boots are not included and must be provided by the student.

government subsidies

For Danish Citizens (living in Denmark or abroad), or non-Danish families residing in Denmark with officially/valid residency permits,
government subsidies for the efterskole year may be available.
These subsidies are means tested and vary depending upon personal finances and circumstances.

We advise you check with the Efterskolerne Organisation website to verify if your family is eligible, using the price calculator (currently available in Danish only)

Payment:

As a family, you may decide how many instalments the stay is paid in. However, it is important to note that all payments must always be made in advance.

Payments are normally divided into 12 instalments, with the first payment due approximately two months before the start of the school year.

Alternatively, payments can be made in 3-, 6-, or 12-month instalments, which may be advantageous for international transfers.

Termination fee: 

If the stay is terminated before the end of the school year, a termination fee of 8,000 DKK must be paid.

The fee applies regardless of whether the termination is initiated by the school or by the family.

If a student wishes to leave before the end of the school year, it is possible to give the school four weeks’ notice and thereby avoid paying the termination fee. However, payment for the four weeks of schooling is still required.
