The gymnast returns to Vedersø

Nikolaj Sass-Petersen already has many years of experience in gymnastics - and he is not at all done. After my own efterskole year at VI, I started at Herning Gymnasium in 2015.

While attending school, I started doing gymnastics at Hammerum Rep. and Gjellerup Sdr. To keep up with my gymnastics after efterskole, and to get better. It involved both performances and TeamGym competitions. During my three years at Herning Gymnasium, I also coached a few teams, from 12 year-olds and above.

After graduating from Herning Gymnasium, I took a spring semester at Ollerup Gymnastikhøjskole (Gymnastics school) in the spring of 19.

Afterwards, I needed a little adventure. I moved to Australia for half a year to coach gymnastics in a small town called Muswellbrook - and it was quite the experience!

I teach:

  • Gymnastics
  • Tumbling
  • TeamGym
  • Jump
  • Supporting teacher in Math

International Experience:
Half a year as a gymnastics coach in NSW, Australia.

Country on my bucket listThere are many countries on my bucket list, but Canada and the Philippines are some. I love the big and breathtaking nature - and would love to go scuba diving and explore the underwater world.

My primary goal in working with young people

To help each individual evolve, both on their own and as a part of the community. I want to get to know them, have a lot of fun with them and help them have fun with each other.

I want to help our students develop both their gymnastic skills but more also on a personal level. I wish to open the students' eyes to the joys of gymnastic.

We must create the best possible framework for our students' development and experience.

Nikolaj's speciality; gymnastics

- It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or experienced. You just have to be willing to learn and improve.

My speciality is definitely Gymnastics. I have been in gymnastics all my life. First as an athlete, but later on as coach as well. As an athlete, I both do a lot of performances and TeamGym competitions. They give different things to the sport that I enjoy and want to pass on to my students.

The gymnastics environment is simply the most incredible environment to be in - that's why it keeps inspiring me. I have been doing show gymnastics for as long as I can remember and started TeamGym in Gjellerup Sdr. after Vedersø Idrætsefterskole.

With a year at efterskole and a coaching stay in Australia, I have gathered a lot of experience and inspiration, which I am ready to pass on.

In terms of jumping-based gymnastics, we have various competitions to offer. TeamGym is a team competition where you focus on the team, and everyone's performance and mistakes can have consequences for the team and the final grade. Power tumbling, on the other hand, is all about the individual. You only focus on yourself and your performance and skills.

Whether you choose one, the other, or both forms of competition, we specialize our training to the individual's needs and goals.

It takes an incredible number of training hours to become a skilled gymnast, and even if you are among the best, you still have a lot to learn.
